Sara
I tremble with nerves as I slip out of my tight dress and change into the baggy t-shirt and sweatpants Bill gave me.
I’ve been hidden away in the bathroom for over ten minutes now, wondering if I should just run out of here and hail a cab back to Tracy’s. But I know I’d kick myself if I chickened out now. All night, the sexual tension between me and Bill has been palpable—crackling in the air like electricity, making me shiver with the sweet promise of what could be.
I know that every naughty thing playing in mind is playing in his too. Why else would this jacked hunky firefighter be so keen to take me back to his place and give me a change of clothes?
He’s as sweet as he is hot. I’ve been shivering the whole time in my dress and he could see it. I’m a little embarrassed that his clothes almost fit me but I’m loving the scent of him wrapped around my body. I feel snug, warm and protected.
When I’ve given myself a pep talk in the bathroom mirror, I draw a deep breath and walk out to the living-room. As soon as he sees me—now dressed like I’m at a slumber party—a broad smile pulls across his lips. “More comfy?” he asks.
I nod.
“Good.” His smile stretches. “Although it would be nicer if you weren’t wearing anything.”
My stomach knots and I feel myself get wet. His shirt is now open as he lounges of the sofa and I can see a slither of his ripped torso. His rich-brown eyes sparkle with mischief as he looks up at me standing like a statue before him. I want to sit down but I feel paralyzed—wondering when, and how, the agonizing wait for what I know he craves will he broken.
“I can fix us up a real drink if you’d like,” he says.
“I’m sorry, but I’m not sure this is such a good idea.”
“The t-shirt isn’t that bad, is it?”
I nervously chuckle. “No, but...” I take a deep breath. “I’m only in town for a week.”
“And?”
“And I don’t normally do one night stands.”
He chews on the inside of his cheek and then stands up. Reaching into his back pocket, he pulls out the condom Tracy gave me. The color drains from my face.
“Came prepared though,” he teases.
“That was my friend, she—wait a minute, did you go through my purse?”
“No. It dropped to the floor and this fell out.”
He walks slowly toward me with desire burning in his eyes. When he’s within reach, he takes one of my hands in his and pulls me in. “I don’t do one night stands either. I’ve had my heart broken before.”
“Why me though?”
“Do you want me to reel off a list of reasons?”
“No, but—”
“Then just go with it,” he cuts in. “I know it sounds crazy, but I feel like I’ve known you my whole life, Sara. I’d never hurt you. I’d never do what another guy has done to you.”
“How do you know I’ve been hurt?”
He softly palms my cheek and pushes closer.
